Clicky

Hi, I've been using a 2011 MBP (15" 2.3Ghz), and it feels quite slow when having 10-15 websites open in Safari or Chrome. the only extensions i'm using are click to flash and last pass.

When using other applications like Adobe CS5 suite, the machine feels pretty fast, however in opening/moving files, launching applications, and general use, it feels much slower than my previous machine (late 2010 macbook air w/ 4GB ram)

I assume the SSD of the Macbook Air was the main factor why the Air felt much faster in everyday tasks like web browsing and general file operations.

Is there any way to improve the performance of my MBP (has 4GB ram and 5400rpm 750GB HDD), or should I upgrade to SSD and 8GB RAM to see the upgrades I need?

PS I have installed the latest updates from Apple for my machine. Thanks!

It probably is the SSD. But here is an interesting compromise: Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive:  http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/09/seagate-momentus-xt-hybrid-hard-drive-review/

You might try googling for more reviews and tests.

still checking what may be the cause of this.

after 8G of Crucial RAM at $100, it feels like a totally different machine.

Cant imagine what's going to happen with the SSD upgrade later this year!

I have an 8 Gig MacBook Pro with the SSD and it is really fast. Boots in seconds. Applications open instantly.

I have the 2.3 Ghz but it came with 4G Ram and the 5400 rpm HDD. I believe I will be upgrading to SSD soon.

Overall, my MB Air felt much snappier when opening apps and booting up.

Thanks for your feedback!
