- I have WHS 2010 SP3 running with 4 clients.
- When I try opening one of the backups the progress reaches 81% then prompts to format Y: or Z:
- A few more seconds and a message "Cannot mount the backup" appears.
- This issue occurs on 3 of the 4 client backups.  The 4th client backups open fine.
- I have repaired the database
- All backups report "successful"
- Clients are a mix of Windows XP and Windows 7
- Only working client is Windows 7 Home 64-bit
- I have launched "diskpart" followed by "automount enable".   Did not fix anything apparent.

anything used the infamous Z: drive?

take a look at the event viewer and tell us what happens:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\logs)

run ClientRestoreWizard.exe

you may also try upgrading to PP3 (power pack 3) as well.

- Is this on the server or the clients?
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\logs)

- Already on PP3

Just several "information" entries.
Is there something you suspect that I might see?

- Cleared System Event Log on both WHS and Client
- Ran manual backup
- Tried opening backup after completion and result failed
- Tried answering yes to format z: and another message appeared (see attached)

have you tried formatting the disk with another tool?

I can't really recommend one off the top of my head though but it might help to find one.

There is no Z: drive to format.    This must be an eroneous prompt ?

I found out this error is widespread as well.

- My own research found suggestions that it would be necessary to delete all existing backups on all clients.
- After deleting all backups, I ran the WHS database repair.
- I manually did a backup on one of the problem clients
- Was then able to get past the 81% and successfully open the backup and view files.
