Clicky

Hiya

I have two bitmaps. In one, I want to select a part of the images and place it on the other bitmap. Further, I want to be able to resize the selected image so it can be "dropped" into the second image and look right i.e. not too small or large.

Can anybody tell me how to do this?

You can select part of an image with the selection tools (rectangle, circle, or lasso) located on the top of the tools window. example: The rectangle tool looks like a square of dotted lines.

Once you use a selection tool to select part of an image you can use control + C to copy it.

Go to the second image and hit control +v to paste the selected part of the image on the second image.

After you pasted it hit Layer > New Layer on the top menu.  This will make a new layer out of the selection that you pasted.
(NOTE: To see the layers palette click Dialogs > Layers)

Now you can resize what you pasted by going to Layer > Scale layer

Good luck!

Great, did what you suggested but unfortunately I don't seem to be able to move the new layer/selection to where I want it. Is that possible?

Sure is, there is a move tool, looks like a cross with arrow heads. :)

Select that tool and you should be able to move the new layer around.
